Camping chain Aussie Disposals in administration

Second administration in six years for the outdoor retailer

Aussie Disposals Pty Ltd, the operator of the long-running Australian outdoor and camping retail chain founded in Victoria in 1962, has entered voluntary administration for the second time in six years, with Manuel Hanna of Romanis Cant appointed administrator on 3 March 2026.

Founded as a military surplus retailer more than six decades ago, Aussie Disposals built a national reputation supplying camping, outdoor and adventure gear to Australian consumers. Over time the company expanded its product range to include tents, hiking equipment, outdoor clothing and footwear.

The chain has previously undergone restructuring. In 2020, the business entered voluntary administration before emerging through a restructuring process that allowed the brand to continue trading. In the years since, the retailer’s footprint has contracted, with several stores closing across Victoria and New South Wales as the company sought to rationalise its network.

According to statements from the administrator, challenging economic conditions and increased competition from both domestic and international retailers have contributed to the company’s financial difficulties. The administration includes seven company-owned stores, the company’s online store, its head office and two warehouses. The retailer is understood to owe approximately $4 million to creditors.

Administrators have indicated that the business will continue to trade during the administration while stock is progressively sold down and expressions of interest are sought from parties interested in acquiring the business as a going concern.
