Cosmopolitan Australia publisher enters liquidation

KK Press Pty Ltd, the independent publisher behind the revival of Cosmopolitan Australia, has been placed into liquidation, marking the collapse of a boutique media business that sought to re-establish premium print and digital titles in a challenging advertising and cashflow environment.

KK Press Pty Ltd entered liquidation on 30 January 2026, with Lindsay Stephen Bainbridge and Timothy Bradd of Pitcher Partners appointed as liquidators. The appointment followed the quiet cessation of publishing activities late last year, including the winding down of Cosmopolitan Australia’s local digital operations at the start of January.

Founded in 2020 by Katarina Kroslakova, the business operated as an independent publishing house focused on high-end lifestyle and fashion titles. Its portfolio included the local edition of T: Australia, The New York Times Style Magazine, and, more recently, the Australian relaunch of Cosmopolitan under a licensing arrangement with Hearst Magazines International.

Cosmopolitan Australia returned to the market in August 2024 after a multi-year hiatus, with plans for a combination of print editions and a digital platform. The title ultimately published six print issues, with the final edition released in August or September 2025, before publishing activity ceased. Hearst has since indicated it is seeking a new Australian partner for the brand.

In public statements following the closure, Kroslakova cited acute cashflow pressure as a decisive factor in the business’s failure, despite strong readership growth and industry support. The liquidation brings to an end a five-year effort to sustain independent, premium magazine publishing amid rising production costs, volatile advertising revenue, and structural shifts in media consumption.
