Finexia's Shared Beginnings childcare businesses enter voluntary administration
Administrators DVT McLeods appointed after listed lender withdraws financial support following costly recovery efforts tied to failed childcare operators

Shared Beginnings Pty Ltd and Shared Beginnings AP Pty Ltd, two childcare operating entities associated with ASX-listed private credit provider Finexia Financial Group (ASX: FNX), entered voluntary administration on 19 October 2026, with Bill Karageozis and Nick Keramos of DVT McLeods appointed joint administrators. The appointments follow Finexia's decision to discontinue financial support for the businesses after an extended effort to recover loans made to distressed childcare operators.
The companies trade under the Shared Beginnings brand across multiple locations in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory, including Sinnamon Park, Kenmore, Mont Albert, Reservoir, Paddington, Pyrmont, West Pennant Hills, Austral, Bradbury, Forestville, Kirrawee, Ashwood, Beaumaris, Bonython and Conder. Shared Beginnings AP also lists Ashburton Early Learning among its trading names. The administrators will assess the financial position of the companies and determine the options available for their operations.
The administration marks a further setback for Finexia, which became involved in operating childcare centres after enforcing security over loans to businesses associated with Genius Early Learning. In 2025, the lender enforced security against Vertical 4 Pty Ltd and Abacus 49 Pty Ltd, with approximately $21.2 million outstanding and security over 11 childcare businesses valued at $29.1 million. Finexia also obtained approximately $6 million in Mayfield Childcare shares as additional collateral.
Shared Beginnings was established as a special purpose vehicle to hold the childcare businesses during the recovery process, with Early Learning Management assuming operational responsibility for 11 centres in June 2025. The strategy involved stabilising operations before selling the centres and applying proceeds against outstanding debt. However, the recovery process proved more expensive and prolonged than anticipated.
The group's exposure increased following the February 2026 receivership of Orchard Early Learning, another childcare borrower owing approximately $24 million. Worrells was appointed receiver, while Shared Beginnings subsequently assumed operational control of the Orchard businesses. A proposed transaction contemplated Finexia acquiring six childcare assets in exchange for a partial release of debt. The secured assets had been valued at approximately $36 million in December 2025, although Finexia subsequently determined that an impairment was necessary.
Finexia said it had committed substantial financial and operational resources to the childcare businesses but could no longer justify continued funding given the limited progress achieved through its recovery efforts. The company expects to deconsolidate Shared Beginnings from its financial statements following the administrators' appointment, although the extent of any resulting impairment or contingent liabilities remains uncertain.
The childcare defaults have also contributed to broader financial and regulatory reporting difficulties for Finexia. Its auditor, Pitcher Partners Sydney, determined that the group no longer qualified for the investment entity accounting exemption, requiring it to consolidate its operating businesses and restate two years of financial statements. Finexia has maintained that its involvement in childcare operations resulted from enforcing security rather than a deliberate change in its investment strategy.
The lender has since suspended new lending and agreed with wholesale funding partners Income Asset Management and Global Credit Investments to accelerate the runoff of its existing loan portfolio. Its Finexia Childcare Income Fund is also being wound down, with the timing of distributions dependent on realisations from illiquid underlying assets.
The administrators' appointment leaves the future of the Shared Beginnings childcare operations to be determined while Finexia continues to address the financial consequences of its exposure to the sector.
