Queensland construction firm Open Projects Group enters liquidation

Open Projects Group has been placed into liquidation, bringing to an end more than 15 years of operations as a prominent construction and shopfitting contractor across south east Queensland.
William Robson of Robson Cotter was appointed liquidator of Open Projects Group on 29 January 2026, following the collapse of the business and the cessation of trading, according to notices provided to employees and stakeholders.
The liquidation has left more than 75 employees without work, with staff notified of the company’s failure by email from director Kane McCarthy, who confirmed that control of the business had passed to the liquidator and that external administration would now govern the wind up of the group and the handling of employee entitlements.
Founded in 2008, Open Projects Group grew into one of the region’s larger full-service shopfitting and construction operators, delivering hospitality, commercial, and mixed use projects across Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and surrounding areas. Its portfolio included a number of high profile hospitality venues and commercial fit outs, earning the group industry recognition over its years of operation.
In communications to staff, McCarthy apologised for the outcome and emphasised that the liquidation was not a reflection of employee performance, attributing the company’s success over the years to the efforts of its workforce and acknowledging the personal impact of the collapse on employees and their families.
The appointment of a liquidator indicates that restructuring or recapitalisation options were no longer viable, with the focus now shifting to the orderly realisation of assets, the investigation of the company’s affairs, and the assessment of potential recoveries for creditors.
