Arna Pharma enters administration, leaving Bronchitol and Aridol supply in question

Arna Pharma Pty Ltd, the Sydney manufacturer behind respiratory products Bronchitol and Aridol, was placed into voluntary administration on 7 September, with Mohammad Mansoor of Circuit Restructuring appointed.

Built on an acquisition from Pharmaxis

Arna Pharma built its respiratory business around an acquisition from Pharmaxis, later renamed Syntara, buying the company's mannitol respiratory unit and the rights to Bronchitol and Aridol in a sale that completed on 18 October 2023. The handover was staged: Arna Pharma took on full operational responsibility for the business on 1 February 2024, aside from the lease on the Frenchs Forest, Sydney facility where the products were already made, with that lease transferring across in the months that followed. Arna Pharma has continued manufacturing both products at that site.

Locking in the distributor

The company kept building on that base. In February 2025, it converted its distribution arrangement with BTC Pharma, the Australian sponsor of both products, from a fixed ten-year term into an indefinite licence covering Australia and New Zealand, while taking on distribution rights of its own in Singapore and Malaysia, paying BTC a royalty on those sales for three years. Arna Pharma managing director Hemant Gulhane called the expanded deal a platform for "long-term success."

Supply now in question

Mansoor now controls the company's affairs, 19 months after that licence took effect. Because Bronchitol and Aridol are manufactured only at the Frenchs Forest facility, the administration immediately raises questions about continuity of supply. BTC Health, the ASX-listed parent of BTC Pharma, disclosed the appointment to the market on 8 September, saying BTC Pharma holds around eight months of Bronchitol stock but less than one month of Aridol stock, and that while Arna Pharma has indicated it intends to recapitalise and keep supplying the products, BTC cannot verify that position. The products generated $1.1 million in sales for BTC in FY2026; BTC says that could be no more than $0.5 million in FY2027 without further supply from Arna Pharma.
