Australia's last grower-owned sugar mill seeks government bailout

Isis Central Sugar Mill, Australia’s last grower-owned sugar mill, is seeking up to $18 million in state and federal government support after mechanical failures, weaker global sugar prices and rising costs strained its finances, with Queensland considering a $9 million loan to keep the 129-year-old operation afloat through September 2027.
