Defunct NDIS provider given record $2.2 million penalty after Queensland man fatally hit by car

Aurora Community Care, which entered voluntary liquidation in January 2024, has been fined a record $2.2 million by the Federal Court for 131 breaches of the NDIS Act after failing to properly supervise a participant who was fatally struck by a car, with the Court saying that although the provider remains in liquidation, the penalty serves "to recognise the gravity of the contravention and fulfils … the important role of general deterrence”.
