Far Northern Milling and Daintree Bio Precinct - Voluntary Administration

Far Northern Milling, the owner of the Mossman Sugar Mill located north of Cairns, and its parent company, Daintree Bio Precinct, entered voluntary administration on 20 November. The Mill employs approximately 150 workers and is supplied by dozens of growers. It was purchased by Far North Milling in 2019, after a cooperative of over 100 sugarcane growers banded together to save it from being shut down, assisted with a government bailout of over $45 million. The companies cited “financial distress” as the reason for the appointment, and said the administration is the best chance of securing a future for the Mill. John Goggin of Worrells was appointed voluntary administrator of both companies.
