Interchange Health Co-Operative - Voluntary Administration

Interchange Health Co-Operative, a Canberra-based bulk-billing allied health and general medical practice, entered voluntary administration on 7 April.

The co-operative has been providing 100% bulk-billed general practice and allied health services to Canberra’s most vulnerable community members for six years, with nearly 5,000 patients now reliant on its services.

The co-operative struggled to attract doctors under its fully bulk-billed business model and could no longer cover its costs, even after implementing a range of initiatives, including an intensive recruitment program over several months to fill vacancies.

Jonathon Colbran and Adam Cormack of RSM Australia were appointed administrators, and said that their preliminary view is that the business lacks the sufficient funding to continue its operations.

The co-operative has ceased providing services, and the administrators are engaging with a number of governmental departments and organisations, requesting assistance for patients, and also seeking support in the form of funding to recommence operations and to continue to provide services to patients.
