Link Airways suspends Shellharbour flights as fuel costs soar and demand slumps

Regional carrier Link Airways will suspend flights from Shellharbour Airport later this month after reporting heavy daily losses driven by surging fuel costs and weakening passenger demand, underscoring the mounting financial pressure facing smaller aviation operators amid broader economic uncertainty. The airline said it was losing “tens of thousands of dollars” each day on its Brisbane and Melbourne routes and warned that services are unlikely to resume before conditions improve, while also criticising the lack of targeted government support for regional carriers outside the restructuring of Rex.
