MediSecure - Voluntary Administration

MediSecure, a Melbourne-based e-prescription firm, entered voluntary administration on 3 June following a data breach that saw 6.5 terabytes of patient and physician information posted for sale on a hacking forum.

Throughout the latter half of May, the company provided updates on the data breach on its website, revealing that it sought funding from the Commonwealth Government for the limited purpose of helping to deal with the data breach (and not for funding its operational costs), but the funding request was denied.

The company also stated that it was working with cyber and forensic experts from McGrathNicol Advisory in collaboration with the National Cyber Security Coordinator to confirm the extent of the data breach.

Vaughan Strawbridge and Paul Harlond of FTI Consulting were appointed as voluntary administrators.
