Most Australian liquidations return nothing to creditors, ASIC finds

ASIC has released a review of 26,664 liquidations between July 2021 and June 2025, revealing that 88.1% of finalised liquidations delivered no return to ordinary unsecured creditors, with only 5.3% paying a dividend at a median recovery of 9.8 cents in the dollar, while approximately one in five companies had a director previously involved in another liquidation and the simplified liquidation process remained rarely used.
